Snap Inc. has officially entered the premium augmented reality market with the introduction of its new standalone AR glasses, branded as Specs.
Priced at $2,195, these glasses mark a significant strategic pivot for the company.
Unlike previous wearable tech that required external tethers, the new Specs are fully standalone, crafted from lightweight Swiss TR90 polymer, and available in two sizes.
While the glasses provide up to four hours of battery life on their own, an included charging case extends this to 20 hours.
Snap is positioning this device as a middle ground between lightweight AI glasses and bulky mixed-reality headsets.
They are designed for spatial computing tasks, such as real-world navigation and virtual workspace tools.
However, the high price point has sparked debate among industry analysts.
With a pre-order window now open and shipping expected in late 2026, the success of this product will ultimately hinge on whether the developer ecosystem can create enough compelling software to justify the cost to early adopters.
