Riot Games cancels development of fighting game 2XKO

Riot Games has officially announced that it will conclude active development of its free-to-play tag-team fighting game, 2XKO, in December 2026.
While the news might sound like a total shutdown, the game will remain online and playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The decision stems from sustainability concerns; despite a loyal core audience, the game struggled to attract and retain the broad player base necessary for long-term growth.
After a final bug-fix update in December 2026, 2XKO will enter a maintenance state, meaning no new champions or seasonal content will be released.
Before then, fans can look forward to the arrival of Lux and Samira in late 2026.
To support the community, Riot is offering refunds for certain purchases made before August 2026 and will unlock all champions for free.
This move is part of a broader strategy for Riot Games as it navigates the challenges of diversifying its game portfolio beyond established hits like League of Legends and Valorant.
