Reduced Hours at Regina Urgent Care Centre
Reduced Hours at Regina Urgent Care Centre

The Regina Urgent Care Centre (UCC) opened in July 2024 as Saskatchewan’s first facility dedicated to non-life-threatening medical issues.
Its primary mission is to provide same-day care, reducing overcrowding at Regina General and Pasqua Hospital emergency departments.
Despite this clear goal, the centre has faced significant operational hurdles.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) attributes these disruptions to persistent physician staffing shortages, noting that these cutbacks are necessary to maintain reliable service during available hours.
While the government emphasizes long-term investments in medical training to solve these recruitment issues, the opposition argues the closures highlight a failure to retain health-care professionals.
For patients, the shifting schedule creates uncertainty.
As of 2026, the facility continues to struggle with maintaining its target operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., remaining a central topic in local political and public health discussions regarding the province's ability to provide consistent care.
