The Artemis II mission completes a historic lunar flyby
The Artemis II mission marks a historic moment in human exploration.
Launching on April 1, 2026, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, this mission is the first time humans have traveled beyond low Earth orbit since 1972.
The four-person crew, including the first woman and first non-U.S. citizen to reach lunar vicinity, is currently aboard the Orion spacecraft, propelled by the powerful Space Launch System rocket.
By looping around the Moon, the spacecraft will travel over 400,000 kilometers from Earth, reaching record-breaking distances.
This mission is a crucial stepping stone for the Artemis program.
By proving that our hardware and teams are ready for deep-space travel, Artemis II paves the way for the upcoming Artemis III landing and eventual human missions to Mars.
