On June 16, 2026, American sprinter Noah Lyles made headlines at the 65th Ostrava Golden Spike meet in Czechia by setting a staggering world-best time in the 150-meter sprint.
Lyles crossed the finish line in just 14.67 seconds, shattering the previous mark of 14.92 seconds established by Jamaica's Kishane Thompson earlier that year.
Although the sprint community celebrates this as a world-leading performance, it is officially categorized as a 'world best' because World Athletics does not maintain official records for the 150-meter distance, which is considered a non-standard event.
Lyles, an Olympic champion, demonstrated incredible form by maintaining momentum throughout the race, which also saw strong performances from South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile and rising talent Gout Gout.
This victory follows Lyles' recent win in the 100m at the Rome Diamond League, further cementing his dominance in the 2026 season.
While comparisons are often made to Usain Bolt’s 2009 performance, Lyles' time is recognized as the definitive benchmark for the event on a standard curved track, highlighting his exceptional capability as one of the world's premier sprinters.
