The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is transforming road safety by implementing an advanced Predictive Asset Management Framework.
By integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their highway management, the NHAI is moving from reactive repairs to a proactive, data-driven strategy.
A key feature of this initiative is the use of AI-powered dashcams on Route Patrol Vehicles, which travel across 40,000 kilometers of highway to scan for defects.
These systems can automatically identify over 30 types of hazards, ranging from potholes and faded road markings to illegal parking and structural damage.
Beyond dashcam analytics, the NHAI uses drones, structural testing, and Video Incident Detection and Enforcement Systems to create a comprehensive digital ecosystem.
By conducting weekly surveys and using centralized dashboards, officials can track road health in real-time, allowing for faster maintenance and better traffic enforcement.
This technological upgrade aims to lower repair costs, extend the lifespan of infrastructure, and significantly improve traveler safety.
By utilizing smart technology to catch issues before they escalate, the NHAI is setting a new standard for modern highway management, ensuring that roads remain safe and reliable for everyone.
