New Live-Action Junji Ito Horror Anthology Coming This July
Horror fans have a terrifying reason to celebrate this summer.
TV Tokyo has officially announced a new live-action anthology series, "Strange: Junji Ito’s Strange Stories for Sleepless Nights," based on the legendary manga works of Junji Ito.
Set to premiere on July 3, 2026, the series will bring 13 of Ito’s most unsettling horror tales to life.
Known for his mastery of body horror, Ito’s work explores the dark intersection of physical mutation and psychological distress.
The project is being directed by a talented trio—Atsuhiro Yamada, Yuta Shimotsu, and Ryota Kondo—with scripts overseen by Daisuke Hosaka.
The series will air as part of the "Drama 24" late-night block, keeping with the tradition of Japanese horror television.
While the specific cast remains a mystery for now, the selection of stories—including "Lovesickness" and "Face Thief"—promises to deliver the intense, surreal atmosphere that made Ito an international icon.
Whether you are a longtime fan of his detailed, grotesque panels or new to the genre, this collection is sure to keep you awake long past midnight.
