On June 11, 2026, NIH Director Dr.
Jay Bhattacharya announced that Dr.
Jacobson has been named the permanent director of the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR).
Jacobson, who previously served as the CSR's acting director, officially stepped into the role on June 14, 2026, succeeding the retired Dr.
The CSR is a vital component of the NIH, acting as the portal for all grant applications and ensuring that research proposals undergo a fair, independent, and expert review process.
Jacobson brings a wealth of experience to this position.
Since joining the NIH in 2009 as a scientific review officer, he has held various leadership roles, including director of the Division of Basic and Integrated Biological Sciences.
His recent work as Acting Deputy Director of the NIH Office of Extramural Research focused on easing administrative hurdles for scientists.
Moving forward, he aims to maintain a rigorous and transparent peer review system, ensuring the most impactful scientific research continues to receive necessary funding to advance global health.
