Starting in November 2026, Microsoft is changing how gamers access Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Moving away from an unlimited access model, the company will introduce monthly hourly limits for Game Pass subscribers to manage rising infrastructure costs.
Microsoft claims this change will only impact about 4% of its user base, as most subscribers do not hit these usage thresholds.
Furthermore, a new feature will allow non-subscribers to stream compatible games they already own.
This shift reflects a broader industry trend toward managing data center resources, which are under high demand due to the growth of AI.
While Microsoft argues these changes are necessary to ensure long-term service reliability, the gaming community has expressed concerns regarding the restrictive nature of these new limits compared to other services like NVIDIA GeForce Now.
Detailed pricing for extra hours and regional availability are expected to be announced before the policy takes effect this November.
