On September 8, 2026, the professional golf league LIV Golf officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New Jersey.
This move follows the sudden withdrawal of financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund earlier this year.
With liabilities exceeding assets and minimal cash on hand, the league is now attempting a major restructuring strategy known as 'LIV 2.0.'
The organization hopes to re-emerge in 2027 with a new 'player-first' business model, where golfers become equity holders.
To survive this transition, LIV Golf has secured exit financing from private-equity firm BC Partners and temporary funding from the PIF.
The restructuring also proposes significant changes to tournament play, including larger field sizes and the introduction of a 54-hole cut.
However, the future remains uncertain for high-profile stars like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, who are listed as major creditors owed substantial unpaid contract fees.
