Civil Unrest Reported in Manipur Following Security Force Incident
On April 7, 2026, a surge of violence struck the state of Manipur, India, leading to a state of emergency.
The unrest began early in the morning when an explosive device targeted a home in the Bishnupur district, tragically killing two young children and injuring their mother.
This brutal act sparked immediate, widespread protests throughout the Imphal Valley.
The situation turned further violent when a crowd attempted to storm a Central Reserve Police Force camp.
In response, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew across five districts and suspended internet services to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the violence and requested a probe by the National Investigation Agency.
This incident marks a sharp decline in the regional peace that had been slowly returning to the state since the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities began in 2023.
