As of June 22, 2026, the Israeli government continues to maintain a military presence in a self-declared security zone within southern Lebanon.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have declared that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will stay in the area for as long as necessary to protect northern Israeli communities from Hezbollah.
This military zone stretches approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory, where the IDF operates without restrictions to neutralize threats.
Despite ongoing international efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, Israel remains firm in its stance, arguing that its security needs take priority over external diplomatic agreements.
The conflict has had a severe humanitarian impact, displacing over 1.2 million Lebanese civilians and leading to restricted movement.
Although international actors have sought to de-escalate, periodic clashes persist, as Israel focuses on dismantling Hezbollah's underground infrastructure, including key facilities near the Ali Taher ridge and Tebnit, to secure its northern border.
