On June 20, 2026, Israeli health authorities began investigating a suspected case of Ebola in a man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The patient, who experienced fever and headache, is currently held in strict isolation at the Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa.
This specialized facility uses negative-pressure rooms to ensure patient safety and prevent potential transmission.
While the case is still considered a suspicion, experts are conducting urgent laboratory tests and tracing the patient’s recent contacts.
The current outbreak in the DRC involves the Bundibugyo strain, a rare variant with no currently approved vaccine.
Because Israel has never recorded a case of Ebola in its history, the Ministry of Health is acting with high caution.
Furthermore, anyone returning from a region with an outbreak who experiences symptoms like fever within 21 days must self-isolate and contact the national health hotline at star-5400 immediately.
