Exciting changes are coming to Newcastle, Australia.
In June 2026, the NSW Government announced a $14 million commitment to finalize designs for a brand-new, 12,000-seat Newcastle Arena.
This facility will replace the aging Newcastle Entertainment Centre, which was originally meant to be a temporary structure over 30 years ago.
Located north of McDonald Jones Stadium, the new arena is designed to host major international music acts, comedy tours, and elite sporting events, with an expectation of hosting 160 events every year.
Beyond entertainment, the project is a cornerstone of the Broadmeadow Placemaking Strategy, aiming to transform the area with new housing, hotels, and green spaces.
The economic benefits are significant, with an estimated $41 million boost to the local economy annually once operational.
While this $14 million funding brings the project to a 'shovel-ready' stage, the government continues to work on securing the remaining $484 million required for full construction.
If successful, the local skyline will evolve, creating over 600 jobs and positioning Newcastle as a premier destination for world-class entertainment.
