On the night of Sunday, June 21, 2026, a significant explosion occurred at the Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.
Located about 80 km north of Doha, the facility was in the process of restarting after a long shutdown caused by regional geopolitical tensions and previous strikes earlier this year.
The impact has been severe; the Qatari Ministry of Interior reported at least 54 injuries and 18 people still missing, with search and rescue missions currently underway.
While the incident caused concern, officials confirmed that the resulting fire was brought under control and there is no immediate threat of hazardous leakage to the public.
The Barzan facility specifically provides gas essential for Qatar’s domestic electricity and water desalination.
This incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of Gulf energy infrastructure, drawing immediate attention from international markets concerned about the stability of global energy production.
