As of late July 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is grappling with a severe health crisis: its 17th Ebola outbreak.
Declared on May 15, this event marks the fastest-growing Ebola emergency in history, with over 3,300 confirmed cases and 1,490 deaths reported.
The outbreak is primarily concentrated in the northeastern provinces, including Ituri, though cross-border cases have reached Uganda.
Building trust within the community is vital to overcoming misinformation and ensuring safe practices.
Coordinating regional efforts between the DRC, Uganda, and global health bodies remains our best hope to contain the spread and save lives in this vulnerable region.
