Cult classic 'Dev D' returns to theaters

Seventeen years after its groundbreaking debut, the 2009 cult classic Dev.D is returning to the big screen.

Starting April 24, 2026, cinema-goers can experience Anurag Kashyap’s gritty masterpiece once more.

This re-release, managed by PVR INOX and Star Studio18, celebrates a film that permanently altered the landscape of Indian independent cinema.

Unlike traditional adaptations of the classic Devdas, Dev.D is a "punk remix" set against the neon-lit, chaotic backdrop of modern Punjab and Delhi.

Rather than focusing solely on romantic tragedy, the film explores the self-destructive tendencies of modern youth, drug addiction, and ego.

Its technical innovation—including camera techniques recommended by Danny Boyle—and its bold soundtrack by Amit Trivedi helped it become an urban anthem.

Dev.D remains a raw, unconventional, and influential work that continues to resonate with new generations of viewers.
