The Chicago Blackhawks finalized their roster preparations on September 16, 2026, by signing defenseman Ethan Del Mastro to a two-year contract extension.
This deal, valued at $1.9 million with an average annual value of $950,000, keeps the 23-year-old with the organization through the 2027โ28 NHL season.
Del Mastro, originally drafted by Chicago in 2021, was the team's last remaining restricted free agent.
Since his NHL debut in 2024, the Burlington, Ontario native has split his playing time between the Blackhawks and the Rockford IceHogs.
However, the path ahead is challenging.
Because Del Mastro is no longer waiver-exempt, he must impress coaching staff during training camp to secure a permanent NHL spot.
