CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially shifted its primary development focus toward the next mainline installment of The Witcher franchise, known internally as Project Polaris.
As of mid-2026, over 500 developers—two-thirds of the studio—are dedicated to this project, which is scheduled for a 2028 release.
This title marks the beginning of a new trilogy, with CDPR aiming to release all three games in the saga within six years by utilizing the efficiencies of Unreal Engine 5.
Unlike the original series, this entry will feature Ciri as the lead protagonist.
The shift comes after the turbulent launch of Cyberpunk 2077, leading the studio to abandon its previous development approach.
CDPR has also implemented stricter quality control and transparency measures to rebuild fan trust.
While the company acknowledges its redemption arc is ongoing, leadership believes the quality of these upcoming titles is the key to securing long-term success.
