Starting June 5, 2026, over 12 million Canadians will receive a one-time GST/HST credit top-up.
This payment is designed to help low- and modest-income households manage rising living costs as the government prepares to transition to the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB) in July 2026.
Eligibility is based on 2024 tax filings, and recipients who already qualified for the GST/HST credit in January 2026 will receive the payment automatically through direct deposit or mail.
Depending on family size and income, recipients could receive up to $267 for a single person, $349 for a couple, or $533 for a family with two children.
The government urges citizens to be cautious of scams and to check only official Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) portals for information.
Ensure your 2024 tax return is filed to maintain eligibility for this and future benefits.
