The 2026 BWF World Badminton Championships officially began on August 17 in New Delhi, India.
Hosted at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, this 30th edition of the prestigious tournament marks a historic return to India, which last hosted the event 17 years ago in Hyderabad.
Running through August 23, the event showcases elite athletes competing in five categories, including singles and doubles disciplines.
With top-tier ranking points at stake, the tournament highlights the sport's global evolution.
Unlike the 2009 edition, which was dominated by a single nation, today's badminton landscape is remarkably competitive.
India, now established as a badminton powerhouse, has secured at least one medal in every championship since 2011.
As the Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Association of India unite to organize this event, the atmosphere in New Delhi is electric, reflecting the growing passion for the sport across the nation.
