Sharp Develops Long-Range AI Video Monitoring System
Sharp Corporation has officially unveiled a groundbreaking long-range AI video monitoring system, designed to capture and analyze high-resolution 4K footage from distances between 5 and 10 kilometers.
Announced in March 2026, this project is a collaborative effort involving Kyoto University, Waseda University, and Oita Asahi Broadcasting, supported by Japan's NICT.
The technology relies on two major breakthroughs: high-stability video transmission using the VHF band, and a dynamic AI that analyzes behavior in real-time without needing pre-training.
This second feature is a game-changer, as it removes the time-consuming process of training AI models before deployment.
By proposing these advancements to international bodies, the company hopes to set new standards for Beyond 5G communication and Beyond VVC video compression.
