The 20th Asian Games, officially titled Aichi-Nagoya 2026, are currently underway in Japan.
Running from September 19 to October 4, 2026, the games have brought together over 17,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries.
Under the motto "Imagine One Asia," the event aims to bridge cultural heritage with the modern spirit of competition.
The games feature 469 medal events across 43 sports, including exciting debuts like surfing, padel, and mixed martial arts.
While the opening ceremony at Paloma Mizuho Stadium showcased spectacular themes, the event has faced logistical challenges, particularly regarding the innovative decision to skip a traditional athletes' village in favor of mobile lodging and ships.
Furthermore, the games serve as a vital stepping stone for athletes hoping to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Despite some reports of empty stands and operational hiccups, the games highlight the region's commitment to excellence and international unity, marking a significant milestone as the event celebrates the 75th anniversary of the inaugural Asian Games held in 1951.
