On September 16, 2026, Anthropic simplified its digital ecosystem by merging Claude Chat and Claude Cowork into a single, unified interface under the "Claude" brand.
This update aims to eliminate the user confusion and friction caused by switching between separate tools for different tasks.
Now, users no longer need to choose a specific mode; instead, Claude automatically detects whether a request needs a simple chat response or an intensive, agentic process like drafting reports or analyzing complex files.
Despite this merger, Claude maintains its powerful ability to work asynchronously in the cloud, even when the user is offline.
To enhance productivity, Anthropic has also introduced new beta tools: Claude Docs and Claude Slides, alongside integrated design capabilities.
While the update is currently rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers across platforms, it will soon reach Team and Free users.
Notably, Claude Code remains a standalone tool for developers.
This strategic move positions Claude as a versatile, AI-first assistant that fluidly handles everything from brief inquiries to deep, long-form work.
