In an unexpected turn of events, Nova Scotia-based mobile game developer Alpha Dog Games has officially regained its independence.
The studio, famous for the popular title Mighty Doom, was originally founded in 2012 before being acquired by Bethesda Softworks in 2019 and later becoming part of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios.
However, following a massive corporate restructuring in May 2024, Microsoft shut the studio down.
Now, just two years later, founders Shawn Woods and Jeff Cameron have successfully reacquired the company.
While the team remains quiet about their next specific project, they have been busy upgrading their core technology and their Unity-based framework.
The founders expressed appreciation to Microsoft for assisting in the transition, which has allowed the team to reclaim their creative freedom.
Alpha Dog Games is now actively exploring new opportunities with partners and publishers, ready to build a future based on their own vision and legacy in the mobile gaming market.
