Almodóvar and Pawlikowski Lead Auteur-Focused Lineup for Cannes
The 79th Cannes Film Festival, running from May 12–23, 2026, has unveiled a star-studded lineup that celebrates global cinema.
Announced on April 9, the program highlights established masters, with Pedro Almodóvar's Bitter Christmas and Paweł Pawlikowski's Fatherland leading a competitive selection of 21 films.
The festival maintains its commitment to auteur-driven storytelling, while notable filmmakers like Hirokazu Kore-eda and Cristian Mungiu also return to the Croisette.
Despite a limited Hollywood studio presence, the event remains an essential Oscar incubator, emphasizing artistic independence.
Led by jury president Park Chan-wook, the festival will also honor icons Barbra Streisand and Peter Jackson with Honorary Palmes.
