Chambersburg Officials Review Costs of Public Water Fluoridation
Chambersburg Borough Council is currently debating the future of its municipal water fluoridation program.
According to Council member Austin Rosenbaum, replacing the outdated system would require an initial capital expenditure of $250,000, followed by annual maintenance and chemical costs between $40,000 and $50,000.
Local dental professionals have strongly advocated for keeping fluoride in the water, citing long-term dental health benefits for the community.
Although Pennsylvania does not mandate fluoridation, leaving the decision to local municipalities, the topic remains sensitive.
Historically, similar attempts by neighboring authorities to remove fluoride have sparked significant public backlash.
