Staff Evacuated from Bushehr Nuclear Plant Following Airstrikes

In late March 2026, the situation at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant became increasingly critical.

Following a projectile strike on the plant compound, Russia’s state corporation, Rosatom, evacuated an additional 163 staff members, bringing the total number of departures to over 400 since the conflict began.

Currently, only a skeleton crew remains to oversee safety protocols at Iran's only operational nuclear reactor.

While Israel has acknowledged targeting sites it associates with nuclear weapons development, Iran maintains its program is entirely civilian.

Rosatom officials have expressed outrage over the proximity of the strikes to the reactor, warning of a potential nuclear disaster.

The IAEA continues to urge maximum restraint, highlighting the grave risk posed by the presence of radioactive fuel at the site.
