The 2026 Commonwealth Games, officially known as Glasgow 2026, have officially kicked off in Scotland.
Running from July 23 to August 2, 2026, this event represents a major shift in how international sporting competitions are organized.
After the state of Victoria withdrew due to rising costs, Glasgow stepped in to host a leaner, more sustainable version of the Games.
The Games host approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 nations across 10 core sports.
This marks the fourth time Scotland has hosted the event and the first since the accession of King Charles III.
