UK Officials Work to Contain Meningitis Outbreak in Kent
Health officials in the UK are working hard to contain a meningitis outbreak centered in Canterbury, Kent.
As of March 23, 2026, 34 cases have been linked to the bacterial infection known as Meningococcal Group B (MenB), which has unfortunately resulted in two deaths.
Investigations point to Club Chemistry as the primary source, particularly for those who visited between March 5 and March 7.
Because the bacteria spread through close contact—such as sharing drinks or crowded environments like nightclubs and dorms—the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has launched a targeted response.
This includes distributing preventative antibiotics and vaccines to university students, recent visitors to the club, and close contacts.
