Artemis II Astronauts Connect with Earth from Lunar Orbit
The Artemis II mission marks a historic return to the Moon, sending four astronauts further into space than anyone in over 50 years.
Launching on April 1, 2026, from the Kennedy Space Center, the Orion capsule, named Integrity, will carry a diverse international crew including Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.
This 10-day test flight focuses on validating life support and communication systems, notably the new Optical Communications System, which uses lasers to send high-resolution video back to Earth.
While the crew will not land, they will perform a lunar flyby, using the Moon's gravity to assist their return.
This flight is a vital step for future lunar landings and eventual missions to Mars.
Unlike the grainy broadcasts of the Apollo era, Artemis II demonstrates how modern technology connects us with the brave explorers venturing into the great unknown, inspiring a new generation to reach for the stars.
