Passive Voice

Learn how to use passive voice to focus on the object receiving the action.

We use the passive voice when we want to focus on the object receiving the action rather than who is performing the action. It is formed with a form of be followed by a past participle.

The room was cleaned.

The room was cleaned.

We also describe actions done to food or drinks in the past:

The bread was eaten.

The bread was eaten.
